Margem, winner of the award Autores 2019 for best choreography, by the Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores, is inspired by the 1937 novel by Jorge Amado, Capitães da Areia, which describes a group of abandoned children and adolescents who live on the streets of São Salvador da Baía, stealing to eat, sleeping on a pier — a warehouse where, like a makeshift of family, they protect each other and survive one day at a time. 80 years after the book’s publication, one asks who are the new capitães da areia, looking to the social reality of these children, and conscious of the fact that there aren´t always happy endings.
